Week 4 Day 1: couch 2 5k

This week was way harder than last week. It consisted of a 5 min warm up walk, running for 90 seconds, walking for 90 seconds, running for 5 minutes, walking for 2.5 mins, running for 3 minutes, walking for 90 seconds, running for 5 minutes, and then a 5 min cool down walk.  It’s a 7 min increase in running from last week, but I was ok doing it.  Hopefully the rest of the week gets easier =)

ps. I’m at my boyfriend’s, so I don’t know how often I’ll be able to make posts.. just a head’s up..  have a nice weekend!

Week 3 Day 3: couch 2 5k

I finished week 3!! Even though I was supposed to finish it last week, I’m still happy that I got it done in the last two days.  I’m going to try and start week 4 this week, but I know I wont be able to finish it because I’m driving to my bfs straight from work on friday to spend the weekend.  We rarely have time to workout during our visits, but maybe we can try =) 

Anyway, week 4 looks way harder.. so I’m a little nervous about it.  I’m sure after I do the first day, I’ll be fine though!

Week 3 Day 2: couch 2 5k

Sadly, I wasn’t able to finish week 3 last week.  I had so much going on.. so I did day 2 today.  I’m hoping to finish week 3 tomorrow so I can get started on week 4.  I really can’t wait so long in between running.  It took EVERY ounce of my strength to get up and run today.  Going back to work has worn me out.  Anyway, here’s hoping that I can keep this up and not give in to my tiring schedule.

Week 3 Day 1: Couch 2 5k

As the Labor Day weekend ended and reality set back in, I decided to get right back into my exercise routine.  I started week 3 of couch 2 5k today.  It consisted of a 5 minute warm up walk, then two repetitions of the following: run for 90 seconds, walk for 90 seconds, run for 3 minutes, walk for 3 minutes.. then do a 5 min cool down walk. 

I love that I can say that it wasn’t really hard at all.  I was sore from the weekend (running up and down the stairs KILLED my calves! lol).  The only issue was that I was wearing long pants and I sweated my butttttt off the whole time haha.

Anyway, school starts tomorrow!  Well, work for me, but school for the students lol.  I already packed my lunch and my new vera bag =)

OMG guys.. I just ran a mile!!

I ran a 10 minute mile straight through without stopping.  I probably haven’t done that in years.  I got on the treadmill telling myself that I was just going to run 3 minutes.. then I just was like you know what, make it 5, then 7, then I figured what the hell, let me just finish it!  I’m so proud of myself, you don’t even know.  

This may not seem like a big deal to people who run usually, but for me, this is a huge accomplishment.  I used to run all the time, and it was ALWAYS hard for me.  After I stopped playing sports it only got harder.  This is the first mile of many.. mark my words =)

Guess that couch 2 5k is paying off!!

You might've said this already but why are you doing the couch to 5k? I kinda want to try this after reading your posts. Also did u pay for it?

My boyfriend and I are thinking about signing up for a 5k race.  I used to run all the time when I played field hockey in high school (I always hated it thought), but I really haven’t kept up with it through and after college.  I just needed a way to slowly get me back into it.  I downloaded an app on my phone.. it was $1.99.. but I think there was a free one =)

Week 2 Day 3: Couch 2 5k

Today wasn’t too bad, especially after having 2 days off from running.  It took all of my will power to get my butt out the door.  It’s dark and gloomy out today.. but it was actually pretty good running conditions.  The breeze was nice and the clouds were covering the sun (but I still was sweating like a pig by the time I was done lol).  It’s so funny how by the last day of the week, the workout seems easier than the first day.  I still hated every second of it.. but now that I finished, I feel great =)

Week 2 Day 2: Couch 2 5k

Today wasn’t quite as hard as yesterday, but it still wasn’t easy.  I feel like I’m running really slow, but I don’t have a way of tracking that while running outside.  I just figure, you know what, at least I’m running.  Even though it’s broken up into intervals, and even though it may not be super fast paced.  I’m really motivated to keep this up.  I want lean and fit legs!

Week 2 Day 1: Couch 2 5k

OK so this week is a 5 minute warm up walk, running for 90 seconds, walking for 2 minutes (6 times), then doing a 5 minute cool down walk.  It only increased the total running time by ONE STINKING MINUTE.. and yet I felt like I was going to die lol.  I’m sweating so bad right now (maybe because I ran outside instead of on the treadmill?).  Oh well, I’m hoping that by the end of the week I can do it with a little more ease.

Couch 2 5k.. Week 1 Day 3.. I’m officially done week 1 (only 3 workouts per week).  I almost didn’t run today because its raining and I think the gym’s closing early because of the hurricane.  I decided to just suck it up and run on my treadmill in my basement (with a little motivation from @gottagettherehealthy).  It’s definitely becoming easier to run, but my right hip has been bothering me a lot lately, especially when I work out.  I hope this doesn’t become a problem.  Anyway, I’m excited to start week 2!

I haven’t gotten to run since monday… but I was able to do day 2 of week 1 at the gym today on the treadmill.  It actually wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be.  It actually felt like it went by faster on the treadmill than when I did it outside (usually the opposite happens!).  I was dreading doing it, but then during it I was like like wow this isn’t bad haha.  I really want to keep this up!

I just started Couch 2 5k today.. I loved it!  I really hate running, but the way this is set up, it breaks up each minute of running with a minute and a half of walking (walk for 5, run/walk for 20, walk for 5).  I got an app for my phone that lets me know when its time to start running or when to start walking.  I felt like I could have gone longer than what it had me do for the first day, but I didn’t want to overdo it.

I don’t know how to calculate how many calories I burned.  When I did 20 mins of interval training on the treadmill the other day, it said I burned like 134 (so 30 minutes it would be 201).. but then today, if I add up each minute I walked.. and then each minute I ran, and add them in separately, it says I only burned 154.  I added this into myfitnesspal, because I’d rather underestimate what I burned, then overestimate it.  I really think I need a heart rate monitor lol. 

Anyway.. day 1 was a success =)

Now I’m laying on my deck cooling off lol
